We recently joined a diverse group of employers from across Western New York for a one-day career event. The goal was simple yet incredibly impactful: to introduce 1,100 middle school and high school students to viable careers that may not necessarily require a college degree.
At Boulter, we're not only proud to participate in these types of events but also excited to be part of an initiative that's critical in combating the labor shortage while supporting our industry's growth.
Diverse Employers Unite
One of the most inspiring aspects of GLOW With Your Hands is the unity among diverse employers. In an age where competition often takes center stage, it's refreshing to see companies coming together with a shared mission – empowering the next generation. From agriculture to construction, healthcare to manufacturing, various industries converged to provide students with a hands-on glimpse into potential career paths. This diverse representation showcased the wide array of opportunities available right here in our community.
Opening Doors to Non-College Careers
Many students are told that the only path to success is through a traditional four-year college degree. While higher education is undoubtedly valuable, it's not the sole route to a fulfilling and prosperous career. Many vendors at GLOW With Your Hands aimed to dismantle this misconception by exposing students to alternative paths. Through interactive stations, live equipment demonstrations, and speaking with industry representatives, students discovered numerous viable career options available.
Combatting the Labor Shortage
The current labor shortage is a pressing concern for various industries across the United States. Events like GLOW With Your Hands play a pivotal role in addressing this issue. By introducing students to potential careers at an early age, we're planting the seeds for a skilled and motivated workforce.
